Optometrist Visit

Dr. Laura Sechler, Optometrist and owner of Sight Eyecare in Chattanooga Tennessee visited our eighth graders to discuss her career in optometry. Dr. Sechler is a former Black Oak student and OCCHS graduate and was excited to show students how she conducts pediatric eye exams and some of the cool things she gets to do with vision therapy! Students were able to examine each other’s eyes and use some of the equipment she would need to use during her day!

Seed Survivor Mobile Classroom

Lake Road was excited to host the Seed Survivor Mobile Classroom—a hands-on learning experience focused on agricultural science and sustainability! Designed for students in grades 3-4, this interactive program brought important lessons to life, while students from other grades also had a chance to explore during shorter visits.

Sponsored by Nutrien, the Seed Survivor Mobile Classroom provided a fantastic and free educational experience for our students. From engaging activities to in-depth learning, everyone had a blast!

Creativity Meets Math

Ms. Lily Moore's, Lake Road teacher, 7th grade math class took on a unique challenge: applying proportional relationships to real-life scenarios. Their task? To be creative and invent situations where they could use math to solve everyday problems based on the standards 7.RP.A.1 and 7.RP.A2, focusing on calculating unit rates and understanding relationships between two units.

The results were nothing short of inspiring! This activity not only honed their mathematical skills but also brought out a side of creativity in some students that was truly wonderful to witness.
